Planning for Fair's "Baby Show" and Santa Claus Parade are top of the agenda for Lioness Club

The Burford Lioness Club met on Tuesday, Sept. 17 to open the 2013-2014 season.

After a tasty dinner, Lioness President Sarah Gardiner called the business meeting to order. Roll Call showed 15 members present as we begin our 39th year of service to our community.

Secretary Lioness Christine McLaren had distributed copies of the minutes of the June meeting for the members to peruse during our meal. These minutes, as well as minutes of the Sept. 12 Executive meeting, were accepted as presented.

Treasurer Lioness Chris Hastings gave her report which indicated a favourable balance in both the Administration and Activity accounts. Lioness Chris presented a budget of $5,850.00 for the coming year. After allowing for questions and discussion, the club members accepted the 2013-2014 budget.

Correspondence received included thank yous for donations from the Burford Agricultural Society and McMaster Children’s Hospital; donation appeals from London Children’s Health Foundation and Crohn’s the and Colitis Foundation of Canada; newsletters from both the fore-mentioned Children’s Hospitals; and a Rental Renewal form from Canada Post.

President Lioness Sarah reviewed the membership of each of the Standing Committees, after which each of the Committee chairs gave a report.

Lioness MarieAnne Wegner reported that she has had one request regarding the Santa Claus Parade to be held on Dec. 14. Lioness Chris reported that her team had catered to the Lions A-15 Youth Camp dinner at Five Oaks on July 16 and to the Burford Lions on Sept. 10. Lioness Betty Tree reported that our club would host the Friday night Community Euchre on Sept. 20 and requested four members to provide sandwiches. Afternoon Card Parties will begin Monday, Nov. 11.

Lioness Kim Bailey gave the report regarding the “Baby Show” to be held at the Burford Fair on Sunday, Oct. 13. Details about classes in the show, registration information, general information and an entry form can be obtained on the website, www.burfordfair.ca\baby.html or from the ad in The Burford Times.

Lioness Kim accepted donations of handmade crib blankets, scarf and hat sets from Lioness Betty on behalf of the Calbeck Crafters.

New business included a request for Lioness Anne Porr to contact Nova Vita and invite a representative to attend our November meeting to tell us more about the Nova Vita “Basket” program.

Lioness June is to send an article to The Burford Times in early October telling the readers about our club and inviting interested ladies to attend our October meeting.

Lioness Sarah is to find out if Lions International allows local clubs to be on Facebook.

The meeting concluded with Lioness Cheryl winning the 50-50 draw.

Saturday, Dec. 14 - Santa Claus Parade, 5:00 p.m.
